Frequently asked questions
What types of items can I donate?
We accept clothing, linen, toys and housewares in excellent and good usable condition.
Sorry, we do not accept large donations such as strollers, car seats, furniture, etc. or any used houseware items that are used for food such as serving dishes, china. (We do accept these items in new condition.
What does Deja New do with my donation?
All items in usable condition are sold in our Lakewood Serendipity store. Things that cannot be sold in our store will be recycled to help fund our organization, which is completely self-supporting and saved the community over 4 million dollars last year.
Can I get a tax-deductible receipt?
Yes. Simply check off “tax deductible receipt requested” on the “Schedule a Pickup” tab.
When should my donation be ready at my door?
Please have your bags outside your front door by 10 PM the night before your pickup, as we start our routes in the early morning hours and they continue through midnight.
How should my donation be packed, and do items need to be sorted?
We prefer donations in 13 to 33 gallon bags.
Please cover the bags if bad weather is expected. Bags that are wet will not be picked up.
Please sort your items into two categories:
1) Those that you would happily share with your friends and family – label these Deja New
2) Those things that you feel less confident about sharing – label these Recycling.
If you are unable to sort your items, please simply label your bags Deja New
Are there any drop off locations where I might bring my donation instead of having it picked up?
Please see the Drop Off Locations tab
What if I need to reschedule my pickup?
You will get a text message reminding you of your pickup slot and can respond to it if you need to change the date.
